Data and Signal Line Protector




1800-series
Series 1800 rail mounted protectors are designed to protect a wide array of twisted pair data and signal interfaces. These Protectors have vibration proof screw terminals and flame resistant epoxy filled housing. The cable shield passes through the protector and may either be grounded or floated by a two position ground link on top of the protector.

The 1810 models (and special order high frequency 1811īs) have line to ground protection elements, but no line to line elements. They are designed for use on ground referenced common mode signals such as RS-232. The 1820 models (and high frequency 1821īs) have both line to line and line to ground protection elements. They are designed for use on differential signals (such as RS-422 or RS-485) and 4-20mA current loops.

Grounding
Proper grounding is essential for effective surge protector operation. The protector ground must be common with equipment ground and provide a low resistance path to earth (facility) ground. The DIN clamp on the 1800 are protector ground.

These protectors should be mounted directly to an earth grounded bus or transmitter. If the transmitter or bus is not solidly earth grounded, use a #6 AWG or larger copper wire to ground the bus or transmitter. The ground wire should be kept as short and straight as possible. Single point grounding will provide better protection, and will permit the protector to be located further from the equipment.
